For those that think less is better when it comes to childbirth stories, here’s the overview: Benjamin Scott Sheehan was born Monday, August 25th at 6:32pm. He weighed 8 pounds, 3 ounces and measured 19 ½ inches long. He’s adorable and such a blessing.

However, if want the “full and possibly too much information” details, keep reading below…

On Monday, August 25th at 1am, Scott and I awoke to find that my water had broken. We called my Aunt Deta (who rushed oh so quickly to our house) over to watch Sam while we made our way to the hospital. When we checked in at 2:15am, I was 3cm dilated. They got us a room and the contractions started coming. After a few hours, I decided to get an epidural (thank goodness…you’ll understand in a minute)! After 13+ hours of labor (but with minimal pain), we started pushing. We thought it would be easy since Sam was a push 1, push 2, push 3 and he was here. We didn’t have the same luck with Ben. After 3 hours of hard pushing, the doctor arrived and determined that baby boy was sunny side up (head facing towards my tummy…a hard way to deliver a baby). She manually rotated him (don’t ask) and we hoped he would pop right out. Unfortunately, we soon discovered that Ben just loved being in the womb too much and had no interest in coming out easily. Ultimately, the doctor pulled out sweet, sweet Ben with forceps. He’s got some war injuries on his head & face but those have already started to fade and his cone head is completely gone. Mom’s recovery will take a little longer, but I’m feeling better with each and every hour that passes.

All the grandparents briefly met Ben on Monday night, and journeyed back to take care of Sam until the next visit.

Sam arrived at St. Luke’s on Tuesday morning. He was a little overwhelmed in the beginning but he perked up the second he heard that Ben arrived with gifts. Sam was a little confused by the swaddle and kept asking “Where’s his feet?” but I think he finally understands that Ben does have a body underneath the blanket burrito.

We arrived home today (Wednesday, Aug 27th) and spent a quiet afternoon with our boys. Scott and I are truly on cloud 9 right now and are so, so thankful that we have 2 healthy boys under the same roof.

We look forward to introducing all of you to Ben very soon.
